Liquid Nation Ball: What They Wore
Keep A Breast' co-founder and 2011 SIMA Humanitarian of the Year Shaney jo Darden wore a BCBG dress to Liquid Nation. We were intrigued by her devotion to tattoos. Letters spelling out words True Love were tattooed on her knuckles. Rock on Shaney jo!
The Keep A Breast crew won the best dressed at Liquid Nation. At left is the foundation’s Erica Leite wearing a vintage dress she picked up in Australia. Dig her floral tattoos. Right is Yasha Young, a gallery owner and art curator associated with Keep A Breast. She’s wearing jacket from U.K. label Religion. Flip over the jacket, and you’ll see the logo of evil rock ’n’ roll band Motorhead. Yasha said it was styled by a friend. Oh yeah.
We were peeved that we missed Suzy Skarulis' performance at Liquid Nation. But Suzy, a singer, sure looked good. She wore a Greenpacha hat and a dress from Free People.
Some people just got good style. Carl Ekstrom had been shaping boards since the mid-1960s. But for his chapeau, he went inland. He picked up this 19th century looking straw hat from Colorado milliner Greeley Hat Works.
The shock! Chris De Moulin not wearing a suit. Those exhibiting or buying at Las Vegas trade show Magic know Chris as the chief of that giant, sprawling fashion market place. He always wears a business suit to put out fires and to greet business people at the trade show. At Liquid Nation he let his hair down by wearing a Billabong shirt and Levi’s pants. We like this side of you Chris.
Surf is all about the stoke and mellow good times. But there’s always been a satiric, aggro side to it too. A.J. Johnson flies that flag high with an Aloha shirt by Aussie brand Mambo. Mambo is notorious for designinggraphics that invite laughs and raise eyebrows. We asked if A.J. ever caught flack for wearing this shirt satirizing the Australian nation’s coat of arms? “Pretty much every time,” he answered.
Fernando Aguerre promised he’d do a striptease at Liquid Nation. We were just blinded by his head-to-toe pink get-up, which happens to be the color of The Keep A Breast Foundation.
The money pants were made by the aptly named Loudmouth Golf. He just dyed them pink. Shirt was from Argentine label Juan Manuel Bordeu. The chapeau was a Panama hat styled and painted pink by Greenpacha, a label designed by Fernando’s girlfriend Florencia Gomez Gerbi. She’s wearing a Forever 21 dress.
