MediaNoche Style Mash-Up
In Los Angeles’ Eagle Rock neighborhood, music-influenced fashions matter, but at Eagle Rock’s MediaNoche boutique, the music styles and decades are all mixed up.
For men, the 1980s seems to be the decade of choice. The 1980s/punk-looking quot;Wax Denim Motoquot; jacket by Los Angeles’ Kill City label has been a top seller, said MediaNoche owner Jill Hammer. It retails for $150.
quot;It has a narrow fit, but it suits a lot of body types, quot; Hammer said.
For women, the 1970s Laurel Canyon look of Joni Mitchell and Carly Simon has been all the rage. Seventies-style maxi dresses and feather earrings have been popular. But some of the best-selling items for women have been wide-brim, floppy boho hats, similar to the one Simon wore on the cover of quot;No Secrets, quot; her 1972 album.
Stockton, Calif.–based Dorfman Pacific’s Scala Collezione label’s floppy, wool felt hat has been a big seller. San Diego Hat Co.’s version of the hat has been popular at MediaNoche, too. Retail price points for these hats typically range from $38 to $45.
Musicians, college kids and hip parents all drop by the MediaNoche boutique, located at 5048 Eagle Rock Blvd., Hammer said. Hammer moved the store to Eagle Rock in 2010 after running the store in Los Angeles’ Los Feliz neighborhood since 2007. Hammer did not know if there were any profound conclusions to be made from the mixing of musical decades at her store. quot;Fashion is cyclical, quot; she said. quot;Everything old is new again.quot; —Andrew Asch
