Academy of Art University Helps Kick Off Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week
If you are in New York for Fashion Week, no doubt you have seen the beautiful banners decorating the streets near Lincoln Center. Those fashion illustrations are by Gladys Perint Palmer, Executive Director of the School of Fashion at Academy of Art University. This is the second season that Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week has used the renowned illustrator’s work for its event branding. And it’s no wonder. Perint Palmer’s work has graced the pages of such high fashion mags as Elle, Italian Vogue and French l’officiel. Did I mention her advertising clients have included Chanel, Valentino and Dior?!!
On Friday, the school will help kick off the runway shows at Lincoln Center. The School of Fashion led by Simon Ungless premieres the collections of recent graduates at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week each season. It’s always a highlight of the week showcasing the program’s innovative and creative flair across the categories of womenswear, menswear, knitwear, technical design and accessories. And this season is no exception.
“Part of our commitment to the designers is to help launch their careers and have their collections seen by as many industry professionals as possible,” said Dr. Elisa Stephens, President of Academy of Art University in a prepared statement. “Debuting their collections during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center is an incredible opportunity, especially since the national and international fashion community are gathered in New York City during that time.”
This season’s show will include menswear and womenswear by Meredith Acton, David Doerr, Dipti Irla, Lisa Nguyen, Jen Chen, Juhyun Vivi Park and Sun Young Youn. In addition, a special collection made in collaboration with the Italian Trade Commission (ITC) will also make its debut.
