Business Busy at Moda Las Vegas and ATS
Moda Las Vegas and AccessoriesTheShow, held at The Venetian in Las Vegas Aug. 21–23, have been on a growth spurt.
The two trade shows, both organized by Business Journals Inc., saw a 30 percent increase in retail attendance over last year, according to Britton Jones, president and chief executive of the company.
AccessoriesTheShow experienced a 47 percent increase in net square footage for exhibitors compared with last year, and Moda Las Vegas’ net square footage jumped 20 percent, the company said.
AccessoriesTheShow and Moda Las Vegas together had more than 650 juried lines displaying their merchandise during the three-day event.
For Amber Ozinga, vice president of sales and marketing for Beach Handbags in Huntington Beach, Calif., this was the first time she had exhibited at AccessoriesTheShow in Las Vegas even though she has participated in the New York version of the accessories trade show. “The traffic wasn’t the slowest, and it wasn’t the busiest, but we had a really good show,” she said, noting there was good attendance by golf and resort shops that like the colorful bags the company sells. She also picked up business from a gift website called Gifting Grace (www.giftinggrace.com), a new venture being undertaken by JCPenney and Hearst Magazines.Ravi Bhushan, sales director for Chaudry, a women’s apparel line in Los Angeles, has shown at Moda Las Vegas several times after exhibiting at Project and MAGIC. For Bhushan, Moda Las Vegas has always been a winner. “Out of the 70 or 80 orders we had, about 19 or 20 of them were new customers,” he said.Bhushan likes the controlled size of the show and the atmosphere. The show’s organizers provide a hot breakfast and lunch for buyers and exhibitors, which is appreciated by everyone.
