Satanica Batcakes: From Glee to Halloween
Batcakes Couture Spiderweb hat.
With a name like Satanica Batcakes, there is no choice but to make Halloween gear.
Los Angeles-headquartered Batcakes makes hats out that look like spiderwebs, hats topped off by taxidermied animals, and even headwear for scary, cute clowns.
Halloween and Classic Hollywood looks have bought success to this milliner who declined to have her real name published and her label Batcakes Couture.
One of her hats was worn by actress Naya Riviera during a crucial scene of the Special Education episode of hit program Glee. Batcake Couture’s designs have graced Courtney Love’s crown and Batcakes Couture also designed the headwear that was worn at the wedding of Oscar winning screenwriter Diablo Cody.
The Los Angeles-based Batcakes started her hat business after her former gig; performing as a fire eater and a showgirl for Girly Freak Show and Lucha Va Voom revues, started going south after the financial meltdown of 2008. She started selling hats on e-marketplace Etsy, in early 2008, since then she doubled her income every year for her home-based business.
However Batcakes did not report scary headwear made the top sales for this year’s Halloween. Most popular looks are Swarovski crystal devil’s horns attached to a headband, as well as lace cat’s ears attached to a headband. Definitely more cute than scary.
