Marty Staff Leaving American Apparel
After eight months on the job, Marty Staff, chief business development officer of Los Angeles–based manufacturer and retailer American Apparel, is leaving the company immediately, according to a statement from American Apparel. “Marty is one of the most experienced and capable professionals in our business, and his contributions to American Apparel have been very substantial,” said Dov Charney, American Apparel chief executive officer. “I have benefited greatly from his vision and insight. Marty is truly a dynamic figure in our industry, and I wish him all the best as he moves to the next chapter of his iconic career.” Staff came to American Apparel from JA Apparel Corp., owner of the Joseph Abboud brand, where he was president and chief executive officer. His career also includes executive positions at Polo Ralph Lauren, Hugo Boss and Calvin Klein. He will remain “available to advise the company during a transition period,” according to American Apparel.
“I have enjoyed my time at American Apparel and believe my contributions are part of the reason we are currently seeing growth in all segments of our business,” Staff said in a statement. “I believe strongly that this company—with its unique business model, loyal customer base and commitment to American manufacturing—is one of the truly innovative companies in our industry today and is well positioned to succeed going forward. I look forward to exploring opportunities in fashion and am eager to bring my expertise and insight to bear on new challenges and opportunities in the next phase of my career.”
