Divas on Broadway

Hi Everyone!
It’s week six of “Dancing With The Stars,” and we’re BROADWAY BOUND!
Last night’s competition was all about Broadway tunes. The show started with a raise-the-roof, house-rocking performance of “Raise Your Voice” and “Sunday Morning Fever,” led by Patina Miller and the cast from the musical “Sister Act.”

Then the competition was on its way.
Robert Kardashian was the first performer. He danced the Cha Cha Cha to “Walk Like a Man” from “Jersey Boys.” Not too bad, but a little off sync with his partner Cheryl Burke. (I guess momager was checking on her percentage again during rehearsal. And when are we going to ban that loud sister of his, Chloe, from the ballroom? Talk about no class.)
Nancy Grace danced the Fox Trot to “Always Look On The Brighter Side of Life” from “Spamalot.” She did okay, but, the judges weren’t that impressed.

David Arquette performed the Quick Step to “We Go Together” from “Grease.” He tried his best to keep up with the fast-paced footwork, but he lost it a little and was off sync at moments. But we’ll see if he hangs around.
Chaz Bono became the phantom. He danced a tango to the theme song from “Phantom of the Opera.” He was okay, but there was just something missing Technique! He probably will be in jeopardy in tonight’s elimination.

And then there’s Hope Solo. She performed the Rumba to “Season’s of Love” from the musical “Rent.” The show’s female pros gave her some tips to add some sex appeal to her dancing. It didn’t really go over well and the dance wasn’t that good. If they wanted her to be sensual, why did they put her in a costume without heels? You can't be sexy in flats.
The performance may have been short on sex appeal, but there was drama—courtesy of her dance partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who had a divo moment, declaring: “This is my show. I helped make it what it is.”
Maks wasn’t happy with the critique by Len Goodman, who pointed out his more-than-50 years in the dance business. To which Maks suggested that maybe he needs to retire.
Disrespectful? Yes. Not a happy ballroom, indeed.
RickiLake was among the best performers of the night. She did a marvelous Quickstep to the song “Luck Be a Lady Tonight” from “Guys Dolls.” She danced beautifully and looked gorgeous. Dancing is slimming her down.

Then there was a stellar performance of the Quickstep by J.R. Martinez to the song “All That Jazz” from the musical “Chicago.” What can I say, the man has rhythm.

We then were entertained with a medley performance from the power house little package with the big voice, Kristin Chenoweth, star of “Wicked,” who sang, “Maybe This Time” and “I Could Have Danced All Night,” accompanied by all the male pros.

After that great performance, the cast had to perform a group dance.
Everyone had to learn a choreographed number to the songs “Money Money” from “Cabaret” and “Big Spender” from “Sweet Charity.” They even brought Carson Kreesley back to help give the group number razzle dazzle. They got a chance to individually shine with legal lifts. And…they weren’t judged on their performance, so it was a free-for-all.
With no pressure, they did a very good job.
I think the couples that may be in jeopardy tonight will be: Chaz Bono and Lacy Schwimmer, Hope Solo and Maksim Chmerkovskiy (the voters don’t like diva—or divo—tantrums!) and Nancy Grace and Tristan McManus. My vote: Chaz.
But before tonight’s elimination, we’ll get to see special dance number choreographed by Kenny Ortega and featuring “High School Musical” star Corbin Bleu.
Until then, keep on dancing!
