Free-Trade Pacts Pass Congress
Congress passed the three free-trade agreement with South Korea, Colombia and Panama, which have been in play for several years and through two administrations.Last month, the Senate and approved the Trade Adjustment Assistance amendment, which provides benefits and funds to train U.S. workers who lose their jobs because of free-trade pacts. The House has indicated it will also approve training and unemployment benefits for displaced workers at the same time it considers the free-trade agreements.Passage of the TAA was the final hurdle before the bill was sent to Congress.
