Paul Smith: Turn on the Black Light!
Fashion windows are typically pretty, not mind-bending. So what’s up with the stoner friendly head shop art gracing the window of the Paul Smith store on Melrose?
Flanked by mannequins wearing the Paul Smith label's veddy British looking fashions is a wall lined by black light art, which looks more 1970s head shop than West Hollywood fashion boutique. But some marketing genius must be at work here. The black light art definitely got me to go inside the store, a place that already is pretty trippy.
The Paul Smith shop at 8221 Melrose Ave. is shaped like a cube and stands out on the street with its bright pink exterior. Unfortunately the stoner Paul Smith window will be taken down Nov. 14, when I guess we’ll see some Christmas decorations. But there's a consolation prize, on the shop's back wall, there's some paintings that look like art lifted from a motel. Talk about found art! We love it.
