Levi's Brand President Steps Down
Robert Hanson, global president of the Levi’s brand, announced Nov. 3 that he would be stepping down from his job at one of the world’s most influential denim labels.“After my incredible, almost 24-year career with Levi Strauss & Co. , it’s time for a new chapter in my life,” Hanson wrote in a blog on the denim brand’s website.
Hanson gave no reason for his departure. Chip Bergh, Levis Strauss & Co. president and chief executive, will assume Hanson’s responsibilities while the company seeks a replacement, said Kris Marubio, a Levi’s spokesperson.Bergh was named Levi’s chief executive in June. He joined the company after serving as group president, global male grooming of Procter & Gamble.
In his farewell blog, Hanson stated that the past few years stood out as high marks for innovation and success at Levi’s. “We have elevated the design and service in our stores, shops & sites around the world so that you can have the best jeans-buying experience possible,” he wrote.
Other successes he mentioned were the introductions of new products such as the Levi’s Curve ID jeans for women, the Waterlt;Less collection, and the Cycling Commuter Series.
On Oct. 12, Levi Strauss announced a collaboration with American Rag founder Mark Werts to launch a fleet of concept stores called Industrie Denim. The stores will sell more than 100 denim brands, which will include Levi’s fashion forward label Made & Crafted, Levi’s Vintage Clothing as well as its Dockers brands. On the day the Industrie Denim project was announced, Hanson said: “In today’s world, denim is the ultimate and most versatile fashion option for every possible occasion.” – Andrew Asch
