Fabric Leads U.S. Sea Export Growth
U.S. exports of containerized goods transported by sea reached their highest level in nearly three years during the first quarter of this year, rising 11.6 percent over the same period last year. Exports of fabric led the growth, increasing 66 percent over last year. Lumber and auto-part shipments rose 33 percent. China remained the largest market for U.S. exports, followed by Japan. The largest gain in U.S. exports was in goods shipped to Brazil, which grew 29 percent over last year’s first quarter.
