Hurley CEO Goes to Converse

In April, Jim Calhoun was named the chief executive of popular Orange County, Calif.–based activewear company Hurley. On May 19, he was named president and chief executive of Converse, based across the country in North Andover, Mass. Both companies are owned by Nike Inc., and Calhoun’s lightning-quick move from surfwear to sneakers and casual fashion was caused by an executive shuffle at Beaverton, Ore.–based Nike. The executive musical chairs started when Jim Allaker, president of Umbro, Nike’s activewear company, announced his retirement. Converse Chief Executive Michael Spillane was moved to Umbro, and Calhoun took Spillane’s position. Roger Wyett, Nike’s president of affiliates, will serve as Hurley’s interim chief until a permanent executive is named.—Andrew Asch
