Verreos Annoints The Material Girl
The Kelly Nick show
Nick Verreos is on Spring Break, but the Fashion Institute of Design Merchandising instructor, blogger, designer and man about town decided against the typical spring breakey things. He’d rather interview Kelly Osbourne at the Beverly Center Macy’s.
The occasion was the March 24 Osbourne’s debut as the face of Material Girl brand, made by MG Icon, a joint venture between vendor Iconix Brand Group,Inc. and pop star Madonna. It is sold exclusively at Macy’s. Osbourne will star in the brand’s marketing campaigns for the fast-fashion style line for juniors and young women.
The brand is inspired by Madonna’s idiosyncratic style of the mid-1980s when she first made her splash in pop-culture. Some price points for the line ranged from a $22 top with lace sleeves and pockets to a $78 crop leather jacket.
Osbourne’s reign as Material Girl number 1 started with Verreos interviewing her in front of a crowd of Material Girl fans and press, who shot pics of Osbourne followed by a Material Girl fashion show.
Verreos asked the tattooed Osbourne, a reality show star, musician, actress and daughter of heavy metal star Ozzy Osbourne for her fashion advice for othermaterial girls. Said Osbourne:”Leave something up to the imagination. Don’t put everything on display. I’m not a huge fan of slutty outfits.”
The new Material Girl also 'fessed up to loving Top 40 pop (take that Ozzfest fans) and taking fashion inspiration from Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe and Vivienne Westwood. Perhaps her new employers mix her family heritage with her fashion inspiration.
"It's girly, but it has an edge. It's really rock 'n' roll," she said of Material Girl. Word.
