Liza Stewart has been in the showroom business for more than 10 years, but she’s never seen so many designers stepping up to deliver a stable of incredible fashions during tough retail times. “Everybody went back to work to create the magic formula,” she said.
With that in mind, Stewart has added three new lines she believes will go far with innovation and down-to-earth prices.
The first is Cluny, a label recently launched at Fashion Coterie in New York and making its first showing for Fall 2011. “It is everything you want right now. It is very ’itemy’ with lots of exclusive fabrications developed for the designer,” Stewart said.
The designer is Cynthia Steffe, who has been on hiatus for about three or four years. Before, she designed the Cynthia Steffe label, which is now designed by Shaun Kearney and still carried by Stewart.
Cluny, which has financial backing from High Fashion, a silk exporter in China, is a mixture of silk print blouses, novelty jackets, sweaters and dresses. Some of the more innovative fabrications include a blend of cotton, polyester, nylon and cashmere for sweaters and a lace tweed for jackets. Wholesale prices for Cluny range from $38 for tops to $132 for dresses.
Stewart is also carrying the new Seamline by Cynthia Steffe label, which debuted for Spring 2011. It is a collection of contemporary dresses with wholesale prices starting at $64.
Third on the new-to-arrive list is Lady by Yoana Baraschi, a diffusion dress line by designer Yoana Baraschi, who has a contemporary self-named label that has been around for eight years. The label’s dresses come in ponte knit, matte jersey and rayon jersey, both solids and prints. Wholesale prices begin at $58.
Other lines carried by Liza Stewart are Maria Bianca Nero, Gold Hawk, Only Hearts, Yoana Baraschi and Nougat London.—Deborah Belgum
