Program/Competitive Edge: The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) is a co-educational, specialized, private college dedicated to educating students for the fashion, graphics, interior design, and entertainment industries. The college's long 40-year history has been the perfect marriage between education and industry.

FIDM offers two-year, three-year, and four-year associate of arts degrees; advanced-study degrees; bachelor's degrees; and post-degree and transfer programs. FIDM is accredited by WASC and NASAD.

Program: The International Academy of Design & Technology-Sacramento is focused on preparing students with the education and confidence they need to pursue their potential in the dynamic fields of design and technology. Currently, IADT-Sacramento is offering degree programs in Fashion Design & Merchandising, as well as Advertising Design, Graphic Design, Building Information Modeling, and Interior Design. Financial aid is available to those who qualify.

Competitive Edge: Fashion Design & Merchandising is a specialized area of the fashion industry that combines creative skills such as apparel design, pattern drafting, and draping with business knowledge such as retail management, merchandising, and promotion. At IADT-Sacramento, students have the opportunity to learn both sides of the business.

Program: Apparel Merchandising and Management (AMM) offers bachelor of science degrees in both Apparel Production and Fashion Retailing. The AMM degree is a four-year interdisciplinary university program that focuses not only on apparel courses but also on business. Hands-on learning opportunities are available through classes, labs, field trips, and internships. Joint class/industry projects are completed by students with top manufacturers and retailers.

What's New: We have a state-of-the-art Apparel Lab and a Body-Scanning Lab with 3-D and single camera scanning technologies for virtual-reality fitting and customization. We have also added to our range of industry-leading CAD and business software systems to enhance our teaching of technical design, product development, virtual-reality store design, and supply-chain management.

Competitive Edge: Students gain great hands-on learning experiences, which includes running our own apparel-production and retail micro businesses as part of the program. All students complete internships in their field of study, and scholarships are available from the department and a range of apparel-related organizations. Our Apparel Production program is endorsed by the American Apparel and Footwear Association.
