Room4

824 Building, Suite 307(213) 627-6664#8232;info@room4agency.comwww.room4agency.comLocated a few doors north of the intersection of Ninth and Los Angeles streets, the 824 Building is one of the newer showroom buildings in Los Angeles. But with a growing coterie of showrooms carrying contemporary brands, the building is becoming a destination for buyers. And once there, retailers are likely to be escorted from one showroom to the next.

“The longer retailers are in the building, the better it is for us,” said Emilie Cooke, one of the four owners of the Room4 showroom, which opened in January. Cooke and Room4 co-owners Tiffany Troncin, Yves Spinelli and Jeannie Lawlor are all longtime Los Angeles showroom reps. Cooke said all the showroom owners and staff in the building know one another—and what lines each showroom carries. “If we see a buyer who’d be good for Connected [showroom], we’ll walk them downstairs,” she said.

At Room4, the focus is on contemporary apparel and accessories, with an even mix between women’s and men’s lines. The newest collection in the room is Green Star, a collection of boyfriend shorts designed by Jeff Fuller, the creator of Old Stud belts. Green Star shorts are made from vintage American-made Levi’s 501s customized with new pockets, color, studs and distressing.

New to the showroom this season is David Lim’s Kasil premium-denim line, made from U.S., Japanese and Italian denim.

Room4 also represents Juma—a contemporary women’s and accessories line featuring original prints, garment-dyed silks and knits—and Bren, a new women’s contemporary collection created by former Pavonine designers Jenny and Brie Maletz.

For men, Room4 carries two contemporary lines, Los Angeles–based Zak, designed by Zachary Kaufman, and cashmere-blend knits by Jacob Holston.

The showroom also carries Los Angeles–based Kanvas, Kfir Levy’s contemporary line for men and women that features modern fits, garment dyeing and pigment coatings.

There are also fleece leggings, scarves, hats, gloves and hosiery by Plush and hand-made shoes by Los Angeles–based Penelope & Coco.

Room4 also carries Falling Whistles, the accessories line that raises funds to help children escape the ongoing war in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and to rehabilitate those children who have been forced to fight in the war.—Alison A. Nieder
