Barbara Nogg Showroom
Gerry Building Suite 905 (213)489-4684
For 24 years, Barbara Nogg’s showroom was housed in the California Market Center with a host of other showrooms that catered to an updated customer who loves good fashion and quality merchandise.
But early this year, she and her showroom neighbors on the second floor banded together and moved en masse to the Gerry Building, occupying the entire top floor of the 1947 structure, located in the heart of the Los Angeles Fashion District.
The difference for Nogg and her fellow showroom colleagues has been like night and day. The Streamline Moderne building has 11-foot-high ceilings and an abundance of light coming in from large windows that practically stretch from the floor to the ceiling.
“This has a more contemporary look,” said Nogg, looking around the 1,110-square-foot space, which has cement floors and tract lighting. “I wanted it to be very clean.”
Nogg’s choice of deacute;cor is spare with aluminum chairs around gray tables, all the better to observe the 10 lines she represents.
One of her top sellers is Equestrian Designs, a line of pants based in Buelleton, Calif., that first started out years ago with a riding-pant silhouette. It now includes other stretch-fabric styles that are sophisticated and clean. Wholesale prices range from $64 to $84.
Another one of her best sellers is Petit Pois, a label designed by Viviana Gabeiras, a Venezuelan who lives in Florida. The tops and dresses are often made of mesh or pongee and have shirred and draped silhouettes as well as vivid prints wholesaling on an average of $21 to $79.
A third line, Gala & Kardi, a beautiful hand-loomed sweater line from Israel, has been in the U.S. market for a little more than one year and wholesales for $74 to $110.Nogg recently picked up Vintage Highway, a St. Louis–based line of burn-out T-shirts printed with vivid colors. Wholesale prices hover in the low to high $30 range.
Other brands carried by the showroom are Joseph Golden, G Wheels, Vitamina Jeans, Amaya Textiles, White Asylum and Escape from Paris.
“My lines are updated but on the younger side,” Nogg said.—Deborah Belgum
