Mod Rock: Volcom Debuts Spring '12 with Posso on the Runway

“We’ll do the best we can and whatever spills into the parking lot, we’ll do it Volcom style,” laughed Suzanne Vallely, girl’s swim designer. Last year its Spring 11 bikini fashion show at the Cooper Building in downtown L.A. was wayyy over capacity, so this time it was at Volcom headquarters, oozing out onto the gravel.
Those who remember Volcom’s ASR booths (R.I.P. 1990s Euro glowstick rave and caveman jungle motifs) know that these guys can bring the fun. On home turf, the Volcom family dished the same fierce and uninhibited gusto, in their own sartorial language minus the costume. Asymmetrical swept over hair, manicured moustaches, Aloha shirts, ombre tresses, bodycon dresses, barely walkable shoes—they dressed like they were gonna get tagged on facebook and their ex-boyfriends/ex-girlfriends were stalking.
Girl’s swim designer Suzanne Vallely had fun this season with prints and new silhouettes. The swimsuits, sold as separates, featured different print layers and combinations on tops and bottoms so the bikini pairings were offbeat and not so matchy matchy. Based on the success of one-pieces this Spring, more wearable monokinis were on tap.
DJ and musical duo Marylouise Pels and Vanessa Giovacchini known as Posso and often mistaken for sisters, introduced their Posso capsule line part of the Volcomunity Collective. Its what the girls saw themselves wearing on the plane and then straight to the party, which is essentially what they did two days prior—they just flew in from DJing in Singapore to make it back for the fashion show. Mullet silhouettes (short in the front, long in the back) were seen on skirts and tops; and a combo of sexy stretchy and tight underlayers and loose overlayers.
And now, a picture tour of some of the night’s shenanigans! See the fashion slideshow for more runway!

Trust us. Or better, trust Volcom's fit. Tinier bottoms make the bum look better! Volcom did Brazilian-cut and the high waist had a skimpier cut on the bottom rear hem so no granny panties here. photo by Gary Copeland

Don't tell them she's not a real girl. There was lots of inappropriate mannequin touching. Silly boys. photo by Gary Copeland.
