Macy's, Bloomingdale's Go International
New York–based Macy’s Inc. is extending its e-commerce sites at Macys.com and Bloomingdales.com internationally to 91 countries in Africa, Asia, Australia, the Caribbean, Europe, the Middle East, and North and South America. The retail giant partnered with New York–based e-commerce infrastructure provider FiftyOne to extend the two online sites to overseas consumers.
According to Kent Anderson, president of the Macy’s e-commerce site, in 2010, non-U.S.-based shoppers made 36 million visits to the site. International customers will now be able to purchase items in their local currency, and the system will provide information about all shipping-related costs, as well as applicable duties/tariffs.
The company launched a pilot program for the two e-commerce sites several weeks ago in Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom.
