More Than 10,000 Turn Out for Offprice

The Offprice Show reported increased attendance and 465 exhibitors at its Feb. 11–14 show, located at the Sands Expo and Convention Center. The number of exhibitors was 10 percent higher compared with its February 2010 show, according to Don Browne, a representative for the show. More than 10,000 buyers attended the most recent Offprice show, an attendance that was even with the same show in the previous year. Retailers shopping at the show included JCPenney, Beall’s, Fred’s, Ross Stores, Citi Trends, Burlington Coat Factory and Big Lots.

For Doron Kadosh, president of Los Angeles–based jobber American Fusion, high cotton prices and an increasingly competitive off-price market have forced his company to expand its contacts for merchandise and also look overseas for merchandise to sell on the off-price market.

American Fusion’s sales showed moderate increases at the most recent Offprice show compared with the February 2010 show, but the company also sought to make itself unique by adding extra details to its off-price merchandise. The company added graphics and embellishments to its off-price merchandise before it was sold at the Offprice show. “The consumer is more selective,” he said. “It’s got to be a different product for the right price—not just the right price.”—Andrew Asch
