L.A.'s Rick Klotz landed on GQ's short list of America's best new menswear designers thanks to his work with Warriors of Radness, the irreverent, surf-steeped brand. Locals and streetwear afficionados know Klotz as the man behind FreshJive, a seminal menswear brand for skaters, urban dudes and guys who'd rather have Bieber hair for a week than set foot in a J.Crew.
Klotz is in good company for the award. Other nominees include Patril Ervell; Joe Sadler, Derek Buse and Greg Ullery of Riviera Club; Michael Bastian of Gant; Kirk Miller of Miller's Oath and Alexander Wang of T.
And tonight is the moment of truth. As part of the competition, GQ is showcasing looks from each designer's Fall 2011 collection in New York City. The winner, which will be announced tomorrow, Feb. 11, gets $50,000.
We're rooting for our hometown boy.
Go HERE to see Klotz's list of "10 Essentials." They include '60s surf music, muscle pants and, of course, Four Loko.
He has this to say about Four Loko: ""This caffeinated flavored malt liquor is like the poor man's champagne. I've got a fridge stocked with it. Now that the FDA has taken issue with it, I grab it whenever I see it at a store."
Another "Essential": Klotz's GLSA membership card.
