Peck Named President of Gap
Art Peck was named president of Gap North America on Feb. 2, and Marka Hansen, who led Gap North America as its president since 2007, resigned. The executive change was effective immediately, according to Glenn Murphy, chairman and chief executive of San Francisco–based Gap Inc.
“I expect more from our Gap business in North America,” Murphy said. “The changes we’re making are intended to propel the brand to deliver the product and brand experiences our customers demand worldwide.” Until recently, Peck led Gap’s Outlet division.
The prominent vertical retailer also announced that it chose New York as the place to build a Global Creative Center for the Gap brand.
Pam Wallack, president of Gap Adult North America, will lead the brand’s Global Creative Center. The center will be the source for the brand’s design, marketing and fashion public relations. The brand’s prominent designers Patrick Robinson for adult and Jennifer Giangualano for the kids and baby categories will work out of New York.
The company also announced it will merge the operations of its outlet division with Gap and Banana Republic. “The outlet team is known for working in a nimble and decisive manner, which has contributed to its impressive growth. We’ll tap into the strongest leaders from both Gap and the outlet divisions to drive sustainable performance going forward,” Murphy said.
