English Laundry Debuts quot;Revisitedquot; 1960s-Style Shirts
For English Laundry, there’s a bright future in past fashions.
The Los Angeles–based menswear line will debut a new men’s shirting line called English Laundry Revisited, which takes inspiration from the Swinging 1960s London era.
The new collection will feature the tailored silhouettes that made English Laundry’s reputation over the past decade. But English Laundry Revisited will feature patterns—think stripes and plaids, as well as conversational prints and solids, which were first seen on the backs of fashionable men in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, said Christopher Wicks, the chief executive and creative director for English Laundry and its parent company, Defiance USA.
With wholesale prices at $26.50 to $45, English Laundry Revisited bows at Premium at MAGIC in Las Vegas this month at booths 22248 and 21948 at the Mandalay Bay Feb. 14–16. English Laundry also is debuting new ties and cardigan sweaters at MAGIC.
The new collection joins the expanding offerings from English Laundry, which also includes a collection of woven shirts for women that sells at department stores such as Nordstrom and a children’s line, English Laundry for Boys. Parent company Defiance USA counts Fender and DaVinci of California among its family of brands.
Wicks, who was born in Manchester, England, said English Laundry will remain British in its inspiration but will increasingly look stateside for its manufacturing. “22 percent of product in 2011 will be made in the U.S.A.,” Wicks said.—Andrew Asch
