The Los Angeles Fashion Council has launched a contest to send a L.A. designer to London to take part in a show designed to promote Los Angeles fashion.
The council is asking Los Angeles designers to post a picture of one of their favorite designs to the contest’s Facebook page, where online voting will be taking place until January 10 when the winner will be announced.
The newly-founded Los Angeles Fashion Council launched the competition via Facebook this month.
The three-day show and salon will take place in the artsy Shoreditch neighborhood of London, where designers will showcase their collections to buyers and media. The lucky designer also receives $1,000 towards travel and expenses.
Four local designers have been pre-selected – Mila Hermanovski, Bryan Hearns, Curly V and Alana Hale – the fifth designer will be chosen via Facebook votes and a panel decision.
“The four designers chosen were chosen based on their talent and level of professionalism and commitment to the Los Angeles fashion scene,” Kelsi Smith, Director and Co-Founder of the council, said. “They have proven themselves to us both in our experience working with them. Creativity, innovation, integrity and professionalism are all very important to us.”
The council was launched in October to raise awareness of Los Angeles' fashion industry and to promote local talent on a global level. The organization is funding $10,000 of the program through Kickstarter, a funding platform for creative projects based on donations.
Smith says that she hopes it's the first of many events on a national and international level.
