J.C. Penney Withdraws Bad T-shirt

Note to T-shirt designers.

You might not want to follow the example of mass retailer J.C. Penney, which got a lot of bad publicity for a T-shirt that made girls look stupid and sounded as if the store chain was still living in the 1960s.

The shirt in question, which was taken off the retailer's website today, was a simple, long-sleeve white tee with this little message on the front: "I'm too pretty to do my homework so my brother has to do it for me."

That message didn't sit well with Melissa Wardy, who saw a tweet about the T-shirt and then shared the link to her Facebook page. She wondered why people would even make a shirt that degrades someone's self-worth.

Thanks to the power of the Internet, and to various tweets, the shirt is no longer selling. We can only hope that J.C.Penney comes up with a better phrase that might say, "Math rocks and so do girls who can solve algebraic equations."
