Two Figs: Loungewear Fit for Full Busts
As a fitter at Alla Prima lingerie in San Francisco, Deb Figge knew firsthand that there was a demand for sleepwear and loungewear catering to women who have a larger cup size and small band size.
“A woman comes in, she thinks she’s a 36B. You fit her, she’s a 32D, and voila! It’s a great moment, but the sale was ending there,” said Figge, founder of Two Figs innerwear. “You could, maybe, get her a sports bra or swimsuit, but as far as sleepwear goes, I was at a loss.”
The search for pretty nightgowns that fit a full bust was also a personal pursuit that Figge faced before her honeymoon. “There are so many beautiful things out there, but if they don’t offer support and you’re like me [with a full bust and petite ribcage], it backfires and doesn’t look sexy at all no matter how pretty the lace is,” Figge said.
Her design solution in Two Figs is nylon/Lycra fabric that has the right amount of support yet offers comfortable flexibility. “There’s a difference between being supported and being constricted,” Figge added. A combination of Swiss embroidery and stretch mesh provides attractive, under-the-bust support to fit sizes D through G cup. The A-line skirts are forgiving for “most body types,” including new moms.
Figge’s research and development have paid off. Two Figs is shipping to stores such as Linea Intima in Toronto and Sylene in Chevy Chase, Md.
Plus, Figge said, interest in the line gained momentum since she showed at the recent CurveNY lingerie trade show in New York.
When the collection first delivered to Alla Prima, Figge said, the shop was selling one piece per day.
“Even though it’s a high-ticket item, it’s the perfect addition to any bra sale,” she said. “It’s definitely doing what we say it will do. I invite people to test it. People ask us about minimums, and I say, ’Just get it in the dressing room. You don’t have to worry about minimums.’”
The retail price points average around $175 for a camisole and $200 for chemises. For more information, call (212) 802-1487 or visit www.two-figs.com.
