Curve Opens San Francisco Boutique

On Fashion’s Night Out, set for Sept. 8, veteran Los Angeles boutique Curve will open its fourth location, but this one will be in San Francisco’s ritzy Pacific Heights section.

Located at 2360 Fillmore St., the new Curve store will be down the road from fashion-forward independent boutique Elizabeth Charles, a Marc by Marc Jacobs location and Black Fleece by Brooks Brothers.

Curve’s San Francisco location will sell designers such as Balmain, Thierry Mugler, Christopher Kane and Viktor & Rolf.

Curve developed a reputation for selling designer clothes with a fashion-forward edge since opening at 154 N. Robertson Blvd. in Los Angeles in the late 1990s. Today, there are Curve stores in New York and Miami, as well as an e-commerce store. At www.shopcurve.com, an Alexander McQueen Poppy Bustier, Long dress retails for $4,797.

Locals say pricey fashions can meet resistance in San Francisco.

“We’ll spend way more money on food than fashion,” said Sasha Wingate, who has run popular San Francisco fashion boutique Bell Jar since 2008. “We’re about 10 pounds heavier and 80 percent happier. But I’d like to see a store like [Curve] succeed. I have seen girls dress a little edgier. I’d like to see it keep evolving.”

According to a Curve representative, the boutique is interested in opening more locations, possibly in New York, and continuing to develop its e-commerce operation.
