7th Revolution Embraces Mainstream America
For Wes Billingslea, there’s a lot of fashion potential in middle America, and he’s not talking about luxury premium tees or fast-fashion tops.
“The average person does not wear a small and does not have $60 for a T-shirt. We want to offer an alternative to mainstream America,” said Billingslea, an entrepreneur and professional photographer.
Billingslea and business partner Mark Jacobs (the Jacobs who launched streetwear line Whiteboy Clothing more than four years ago) will debut label 7th Revolution Clothing at MAGIC Menswear, running Aug. 22–24 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.
Santa Monica, Calif.–based 7th Revolution specializes in tops meant for men who don’t live in fashionable zip codes and most likely are shopping on a budget—but still want something stylish.
The first collection for 7th Revolution features 21 pieces, including Henleys, thermals and hoodies. But the star of the show is crewneck T-shirts. True to 7th Generation’s vision, the fit of the shirt falls somewhere between the slim size of premium brands and the boxy fit of classic tees.
Since every good T-shirt needs a graphic, 7th Revolution offers shirts featuring such imagery as Native American totem poles, 1950s classic Harley-Davidson motorcycles and the American flag.
The graphics are subtle. The collection’s “Clutch” shirt features a graphic of a mid-size “number 7” on a shield icon. The fabric is treated with an oil wash.
Retail price points range from $30 to $40 for T-shirts and $50 to $60 for hoodies. 7th Revolution also is showing a line for women as well as a collection for the Hispanic market called Alma Latina.
