Lululemon, OnePiece Move to Robertson
Los Angeles’ Robertson Boulevard has long been the tastemaking street for premium denim, but two of the thoroughfare’s newest tenants will be denim-free zones. On June 1, high-end activewear brand Lululemon Athletica Inc. will move into the 3,600-square-foot space once occupied by denim brand Rock & Republic. The move, to 103 S. Robertson Blvd., was confirmed by building owner Lenore Winsberg.“It’s going to bring a lot more people to the street,” Winsberg said. “It’s been quiet for the past couple of years, but things are coming back.” The date for the store debut has not been confirmed. Rock & Republic and Lululemon did not respond to an email or calls requesting comment. The Vancouver, B.C.–based Lululemon runs 137 stores in North America and Australia as of January. On May 12, the first American store from the Oslo-based OnePiece label will open at 116 N. Robertson Blvd. The space was formerly occupied by the Surly Girl boutique. OnePiece has been manufacturing jumpsuit-style outfits since 2007. The company offers more than 100 designs, including the U.S. flag, Nordic knit patterns and palm-tree prints. Retail price points range from $190 to $350. The label’s garments are constructed out of fleece and French terry. Since December, the label has gone on a growth spurt; it opened two stores in Norway, four stores in Sweden and one in London. It sells in more than 60 countries. After the Los Angeles store debuts, label founder and President Thomas Adams—his American father gave him the un-Norwegian-sounding name—hopes to open more in the United States. Adams said the merchandise will provide most of the sizzle with the new store’s design. “The garments have a lot of color and a lot of attitude, but we’re keeping it a plain store,” he said.—Andrew Asch
