Lady Gaga's Fashion Woes: Sometimes Style Overshadows Substance
Unfortunately, wearing a meat dress may sometimes have unforeseen repercussions, which is something Lady Gaga learned the hard way.
Lady Gaga has done more for championing personal style than any pop superstar this side of Madonna. But as the 25-year-old "Born This Way" singer reveals in a new teaser for HBO's upcoming May 7 documentary-concert special Lady Gaga Presents the Monster Ball Tour at Madison Square Garden, the style icon is concerned that her headline-grabbing fashions may be overshadowing her reputation as a multi-talented musical artist.
"It hurts when I know how much authenticity and how much genuine blood is in my spirit and how much I feel like people don't know that... because they see wigs and lipstick and they shut down, because they don't understand," Gaga says through tears during a backstage moment in the clip.
The hit-maker born Stefani Germanotta, however, finds strength to persevere in her "Little Monsters" (Lady-speak for fans) and salvation in religion, reciting in a backstage prayer, "Please give me strength to be a winner for all of them and not myself...Dear God, give me courage. Do not let me give in to my own insecurities."
The good news is that the backlash will do little to deter the creative flow of her Haus of Gaga design collective.
