Design Piracy Law: The Industry Responds
California Apparel News continues its coverage of the proposed Innovative Design Protection and Piracy Prevention Act (Senate Bill 3728) with responses from the industry—one from a manufacturers’ perspective and one from a designer’s perspective.
If passed, the IDPPPA will extend copyright protection to fashion designs. (Currently, textile patterns and surface designs are covered under existing copyright law, but not fashion designs). The new bill was introduced in August, but already supporters and opponents are lining up.
