Fashion's Night Out: The Retail Floor as a Stage
Customers overran the parking lot at Fred Segal and Ron Herman on Melrose.
Stores in the West Hollywood side of Melrose Ave. turned their store windows, retail floors and patios into a stage to entertain the shoppers during Fashion’s Night Out.
Fred Segal and Ron Herman hosted a performance by The Dandy Warhols, in the Alpha windows were vogue dancers from The House of Xtravaganza, Coco De Mer had a burlesque strip tease artist with hula hooping skills and Andrew Christian’s underwear models let us watch them play Twister.
The aisles and parking lot of Fred Segal and Ron Herman were overloaded with shoppers that were dressed like they were walking around in the store’s merchandise of sharp-shouldered jackets, cool denim and boho dresses. Upstairs, rocker guys and girls in tight jeans and leather looked like extensions of the band The Dandy Warhols that performed. A few steps over, Sjobeck had a live window model and shoppers tried on Oliver People’s sunglasses while nibbling on cupcakes from the pop-up Magnolia Bakery shop.
At Fred Segal, shoppers got to see severity of Taylor Jacobson’s platinum hair up close (which is like an albino shade of almost transparent blonde) and ask her for styling advice, which would of course include her skinny Minx jeans or trouser Geek fit pants in the Kasil + Taylor Jacobson denim line.
The sales rep for Spirit Hoods, Aimee Moss said that they got one of their furry-eared shoulder warmers in the hands of Vogue editor Lisa Love for her to wear during New York Fashion Week. Will she do it? How could you refuse a request from faces like these?

The girls of Chan Luu extended the jewelry selection at Fred Segal with rolls upon rolls of more bracelets.
Alpha down the street took Vogue's sponsorship of Fashion's Night Out literally. The windows at Alpha were taken over by vogue dancers from The House of Xtravaganza, which made me want to rewatch "Paris is Burning" again and audition for The House of Ninja.

At the Twister showdown at Andrew Christian, it was one big mound of flesh with a foot or hand reaching out from the pile when the instructions were called out, “left foot green!” “right hand yellow!” One of the drag queen hosts said it best, “If you’re a vegan y’all gotta leave because this is real meaty!” This is the most tame photo that we have of it, after it's over.
