L.A. Fashion Week Spring 2011: White Trash Beautiful
Last season, White Trash Beautiful, the design collaboration between Bon Jovi rocker Richie Sambora and designer Nikki Lund, opened the L.A. Fashion Weekend shows with a rock ’n’ roll–themed collection filled with leather, metallics and animal prints. For Sambora and Lund’s sophomore collection, the pair went for a softer look, which closed the L.A. Fashion Weekend shows on Oct. 17 at the Sunset Gower Studios in Hollywood.
There were flowing dresses in tie-dye, ombre and abstract florals, tunic tops layered over sharply cut shorts or slouchy cargo pants. It was as if Sambora and Lund’s rock chic muse went on vacation in Indonesia. Dresses were best when spilled over one shoulder or pooled at a model’s feet.
The design team offset the sunny, summer styles with a few more-tailored pieces in moodier shades, including a military-style jacket in black and dusty lilac, a black jumpsuit with a copper tie-dye effect, and a shrunken black leather jacket that was perfect for layering.
