Emily the Strange Headlines Goth Shop at Royal/T
From her gothic high chair, Emily the Strange sits... and judges
Emily the Strange is everything an adolescent girl just feels sometimes—alienated, annoyed, sullen, rebellious and not down with the social order.
Sure, Hello Kitty and Strawberry Shortcake are pink goodness and sunshine, which is all fine and lovely but Emily the Strange was for those stormier days when you felt like wearing all black and listening to music that your parents hated.
Now the original surly girl is getting her kudos with a pop-up shop and exhibition at the Royal/T gallery and café in Culver City. Perfect for goths, vamps and general Halloweeners, the pop-up space houses all things Emily this side of Hot Topic.
Merchandise on display ranges from striped tees, hoodies, tote bags and posters to original artwork, limited-edition dolls and a sweet tricked out Emily the Strange Epiphone electric guitar.
The exhibit and shop runs until Nov. 11, and in true All Hallow’s Eve fashion, the Royal/T will be hosting a special Kitty Masquerade party on Oct. 26 (RSVP at RSVP@Royal-T.org). Emily the Strange creator Rob Reger of Cosmic Debris will be on hand to greet revelers.
