L.A. Fashion Week Spring 2011: Mila Hermanovski
Los Angeles Fashion Week: Mila Hermanovski closed Concept Fashion Week with an edgy yet sophisticated runway show. The Texas native, who was a finalist on Season 7 of the critically acclaimed “Project Runway” reality-television series, debuted her collection in Los Angeles, where she now resides.
Hermanovski said herSpring 2011 collection , titled “Rutilated,” was inspired by minerals. “I’m fascinated with minerals and clouds,” she said. “I went to the Gem and Mineral Hall in the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles, and I became completely fascinated with the way that they don’t even look real and the way that they grow in layers,” she explained.
Hermanovski applied the surreal quality of the minerals to the collection. The result was a natural-meets-artificial look created through fabrication and the graphic cuts of the garments. The designer utilized luxurious fabrics such as silk and leather as well as a sheer rayon knit. The leggings, which came in several intricate patterns, were some of the most interesting pieces. Dresses had angular and asymmetric design lines, which captured the modern aesthetic of the collection.—N. Jayne Seward
