L.A. Fashion Week Spring 2011: MartinMartin
The husband-and-wife design duo of Eric and Diane Martin presented the dichotomy of the dark and pure sides of life with their Spring 2011 collection. Titled “Angels of Debauchery,” the collection explored the dark side of promiscuity and—at the opposite end of the spectrum—the purity of angels.
Fabrics helped illustrate the yin-and-yang aspects of the theme with its underlying futurist punk styling. White sheer organzas, cotton lawns and linen represented the ethereal and innocent. And the darker boiled wools and leather characterized aggression and darkness.
For women, the collection ranged from structured leather jackets to long cocoon-like coats and plenty of sheer tops, dresses and lace skirts. Key silhouettes for men included dropped-crotch pants, jackets with heavy zippers and even dresses. “This season we made a serious proposal to blur the lines between the sexes—male, female, gay and straight. It was really all about androgyny,” explained Eric Martin.—N. Jayne Seward
