L.A. Fashion Week Spring 2011: Curly-V
Curly-V is just that, a wildly curly-haired young designer who finished fashion school three years ago and has now developed his first collection.
A graduate of the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, Curly-V, also known as Carlitos Velasquez, worked with designer Jeremy Scott before taking his first step to develop his own label. He showed his creations at an installation held Oct. 15–17 at Concept Fashion Week at Concept Fashion Week at the Springs Arts Tower in downtown Los Angeles.
The 23-year-old designer kept his Latino roots close to heart and had the East Los Angeles hipster girl in mind when he whipped up his concepts.
Black and white were the predominant colors for his Spring/Summer 2011 line, which had black mini-dresses and skirts made of bamboo jersey, black-and-white polka-dot outfits, white or black mesh tops, and yellow leather heart embellishments that have become his line’s symbol.—Deborah Belgum
