Vans Announces Online Video Network Offthewall.tv
Cypress, Calif.–based Vans has announced the debut of Offthewall.tv, an online video network with original content for both serial programming and stand-alone features. “Mirroring a traditional television network but operating exclusively online, Offthewall.tv will include original content developed weekly, as well as video from Vans’ vast archives in a platform that is easy to navigate, is searchable, easily shared and available worldwide,” said a release from the company, which is a division of VF Corp. Viewers can access hundreds of skate, surf, snow, BMX, wakeboarding and motocross videos; subscribe to their favorite series; and share videos through Facebook and Twitter or by embedding links in their own sites. iPad compatibility is expected to be available by the end of the year.
The online network launches with four new series, “Collaboratory,” a documentary-style show that focuses on Vans’ collaborations with brands such as Filson and MadeMe; “Adventures with Chris,” a series that follows Chris Nieratko, “gonzo journalist of skate,” and members of the Vans skate team; “Time and Space,” a documentary series that tracks the behind-the-scenes work it takes artists to prep for an exhibit; and “Yo Gabba Gabba!,” an exclusive series of five original shorts developed by the creators of “Yo Gabba Gabba!,” drawing inspiration from the worlds of action sports and music as each character from the Nickelodeon children’s TV show introduces their own recently released Vans shoe.
More shows are already in the works, including content that highlights the best of top contests, including the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, the Vans Downtown Showdown and the Pro-tec Pool Party.
“Technology has now arrived at a place where we can create a platform that allows us to share all the rich stories that come with being at the epicenter of youth culture for the past 40-plus years,” said Vans Vice President of Marketing Doug Palladini. “Offthewall.tv aggregates all the rich video content that we have produced and continue to create and places it squarely in the hands of viewers, allowing them to watch what they want, when they want.”
