SIMA Announces New Dates, Location for Image Awards
The Surf Industry Manufacturers Association has announced a change of date and venue for its Image Awards. The awards ceremony, which in the past has been celebrated in Mexico as part of SIMA’s annual Surf Summit conference, was to make its stateside debut in January in San Diego and coincide with the recently canceled Action Sports Retailer Trade Expo. Now, the Image Awards will be moved to the House of Blues in Anaheim, Calif., on Feb. 3.
“The original goal of bringing the Image Awards stateside was to afford more SIMA members the opportunity to be a part of this inspiring event,” said Doug Palladini, president of SIMA and vice president of marketing for Vans, in a statement. “Now, moving the ceremony to Orange County, in the industry’s epicenter, brings us an even better chance to achieve that goal.”
The Image Awards—which recognize emerging and established surf, skate and swim brands and core retailers in fifteen categories—include product awards, men’s awards, women’s awards, and an overall award for the breakthrough brand and retailer of the year.—Erin Barajas
