L.A. Fashion Week Fall '10: Sew Down
Sew Down—the fashion, art and music event produced by Los Angeles designer Atousa G.—returned to the Los Angeles Fashion Week lineup after several years sitting the event out.
The time was right for the March 20 return, said Atousa G., who debuted a new denim collection, Pylo, as well as her eponymous contemporary collection at the show in downtown Los Angeles.
“I felt there was a need for a platform for new lines with a more indie vibe to it,” the designer said. “I wanted to do it in downtown L.A., which is a bit more challenging to do an event like ours, as there are not as many venues as other places like Hollywood.”
Held at Lot 613 on Sixth Street in downtown Los Angeles, the event featured an outdoor courtyard, where vendors were selling everything from jewelry to original artwork to T-shirts. Vendors included jewelry by Minx and Jessica Matrasko, shoes by Girly Girl and Robin’s Jeans, handcrafted leatherwear by Andrea Mercado, hats and hair accessories by Brenna Marie Designs, eco-friendly accessories by Suli, eyewear by Rock em Eyewear, art by Sparks Glass Art, and makeup by Make-Up Mandy.
Inside, more than 600 guests mingled and checked out the art lining the walls, including work by artists Scott Powell, Janet Guenther, Michael Gomez Burton, Hso Hkam, Mozhgan Shariat, Kathleen Hallin, Fabian Rodriguez, Rick Rodriguez, Ricardo Vasquez and the Underground Artist Collective.
The evening also featured a performance by United by Sound before the runway show. Looks on the catwalk ranged from menswear-inspired women’s lingerie by Slaone & Tate to reworked vintage from Good Garbage and Haute Olive. In addition to Atousa G.’s classic and contemporary pieces, the runway show featured Ric Rac Clothing, which included dresses in classic silhouettes made modern with ethnic ikat and woodblock prints and graphic tees from Love Tree Nail.—Alison A.
