L.A. Fashion Week Fall '10: Fremont
Fremont owner Devin Carlson took on designing both the men’s and women’s line for the Fall 2010 season. The result, shown on March 22 during Concept L.A. Fashion Week, was a structured and tailored menswear approach to women’s clothing.
“I really wanted to bring more of an edge to it. A little bit more of a hard feel to it but keep it feminine. And using a lot of different fabrics and giving a lot of pieces depth,” Carlson said.
The combination of varying fabric textures was seen in a top that used black matte silk and sheer black georgette to make striped panels and sheer black georgette on the shoulders of a bustier dress. Women’s pants had a lean, tapered fit and were cropped above the ankle, while men’s pants in the same fabrics were worn slim and rolled up casually. Crinkled leather was used in small doses in a women’s waist cincher, cropped moto vest and as the facing of a jacket to infuse toughness to feminine dresses.—Rhea Cortado
