L.A. Fashion Week Fall '10: B:Scott
“Some people wear suits every day,” said Brandon Scott, Los Angeles–based designer and founder of B:Scott. “I never wear a suit. I’m always in casual clothing and jackets, but I still want to make sure I look good.”
Scott treats his line of men’s casualwear with the same amount of design seriousness as if he were measuring out a men’s tailored suit. His Fall 2010 collection, shown on March 22 during Concept L.A. Fashion Week, was a sharp, high-end take on street style inspired by Japanese fashion and architecture. Jackets and sweaters that elevated the sportswear standards—a four-pocket utility jacket, varsity jacket, double-breasted cardigans and exaggerated hoods—were the highlights. Bottoms were understated jet-black waxed jeans and dark trousers.
Before settling down in Los Angeles, Scott lived in Chicago, Nashville and San Francisco. The active West Coast lifestyle of young, adrenaline-fueled sports had an influence on the designer’s street–meets–high-end fashion aesthetic.
“The root of where this all came about was through skateboarding, snowboarding and track bike riding, the sports that are kind of known on the West Coast. It’s not the old-school way of baseball, football, basketball. It’s different. That’s definitely where my inspiration came from.”—Rhea Cortado
