L.A. Fashion Week Fall '10: L.A. Fashion Weekend, Night 2
Mikey Koffman’s The Gallery Los Angeles showroom produced four fashion shows within three days under the banner L.A. Fashion Weekend at Sunset Gower Studios. The March 20 event showcased a range of different styles from the brands Ani, Urban Republic clothing, Raw 7, ABS by Allen Schwartz menswear and Dolce Vita.
Ani opened the show with a sexed-up girls-night-out version of a long white gown that was hooded, low cut on the chest, high cut on the legs and finished off with a long skirt in the back. Back details were a theme, from exposed zippers on the back of leggings and open back details on mini-dresses.
Urban Republic’s casual men’s clothing was an update on the usual suspects of menswear. Loose-fit khakis featured extra pockets, epaulettes adorned the shoulders of button-down shirts and fleece hoodies had a trail of buttons along the edge of the hoods.
Raw7 hit all the trends—from fitted army blazers glammed up with sparkly stones to leather moto jackets and chunky winter knits all layered up as if the models were ski bunnies and snow boarders on their way to a weekender in the snowy mountains.
Though ABS by Allen Schwartz is best-known for its trendy women’s ready-to-wear and dresses, the men’s collection showed classic styling. Coats—with four pockets on the front and raincoat styles—were the strongest items, worn with jeans and cardigan sweaters.
The shoe brand Dolce Vita first dipped its toe in clothing waters a few years back with the launch of cute dresses. The cute, feminine dresses are still here, along with a strong showing of sportswear items that added a layer of masculinity. Menswear-like trousers, aviator jackets and army ponchos were worn with bright prints, short skirts and cropped sweaters.—Rhea Cortado
