Reneacute;e Cohen represented contemporary and classic contemporary fashion lines at the California Market Center for 32 years. On Feb. 1, she moved her self-named multiline showroom to The Gerry Building.
Change of scenery was one reason for the move, Cohen said. She also believes she can pioneer a new business at the Gerry. She forecast her showroom will help turn the eighth floor of the Gerry into a wing devoted to showrooms offering contemporary fashion and classic contemporary styles for women aged 30 through 70. She and The Luxe Showroom are the two classic contemporary showrooms on the Gerry’s eighth floor. By the end of the year, she believes, the eighth floor will be the go-to place for classic contemporary.
Cohen’s debut market at the Gerry will feature Fall fashions and some Summer merchandise from her longtime clients, many of whom have worked with her for more than five years. Her lines include New York–based Alberto Makali, Dallas-based Finley, and New York–based Gender Bias and its Lola & Sophie T-shirt line. There are also Israeli sportswear line Ronen Chen and Los Angeles lines Six Degrees of Styles and Bessential. Wholesale price points for items in these lines range from $17 for a camisole to $250 for a jacket.
For the upcoming season, novelty continues to be important for any buyer. “Everything is item-driven,” she said. “Consumers are not looking to buy new wardrobes. Everyone wants to add to their wardrobes, to spice them up.”—Andrew Asch
