Out of Fashion - an Exhibition by Richard Knapp
Fashion is art, and so is "Out of Fashion." The upcoming exhibition features the fine-art fashion images of Richard Knapp. An opening reception at Canvas Malibu on June 26 will feté the one-time showing for the Los Angeles-based photographer.
The exhibition was created out of the desire to showcase Knapp's work, which was created mostly for fashion publications and clients but has never been seen from the photographer's point of view. Knapp said he decided to have the exhibition because it was an opportunity to illustrate his own artistic perspective. Sometimes a larger story simply cannot be told on the pages of a magazine.
"There are so many great images that I had over the years that didn't work, per se, in the stories or with the amount of pages that were available," Knapp explained. When they asked me to do it, it seemed like the perfect time to show some of these hidden gems so to speak."
The exhibition includes 21 fine-art fashion prints as well as imagery that was created to enhance various works and now stands alone as art. One-third of the photos have been featured in publications while the remaining images have never been seen before. You may recall the beautiful images that have been featured in Apparel News over the past few years. Many times the credit reads Richard Knapp. A few of these images will be in the show as well as a few featured in an editorial spread in Glitterati Magazine.
Knapp grew up in and around Los Angeles. His work has also been featured in publications such as V, Contents and MEAN. He has also shot for clients such as Abercrombie Fitch, Showtime, HBO and AE and is currently commissioned by Lighthouse Imaging as the portrait photographer for the "14 Days Project."
