Tony's L.A. Connection
Los Angeles designer Chad Kimball was up for a Tony award at last night’s ceremony in New York for his lead role in the musical “Memphis.”
Although he didn’t snag the top prize—that went to Douglas Hodge in “La Cage aux Folles”—Kimball’s show did win for best musical—a good sign that the show is headed for a long and successful run.
When he’s not performing on Broadway, Kimball designs the L.A. T-shirt line Obvious Clothing. In addition to Hodge, Kimball’s fellow nominees for lead actor in a musical were Kelsey Grammer (“La Cage aux Folles”), Sahr Ngaujah (“Fela!”) and Sean Hayes (“Promises, Promises”), who also served as the award show’s host.
