Jim Henson Co. Debuts E-Commerce Store
Jim Henson’s cute and creative creations are no strangers to the T-shirt crowd.
For years, the visage of Kermit the Frog has been exclaiming “It’s Not Easy Being Green” from the fronts of T-shirts. Last year, high-profile boutique Kitson debuted Jim Henson’s “Fraggle Rock” T-shirt collaboration with design group Dr. Romanelli.
On June 4, the Los Angeles–based The Jim Henson Co. took its licensed apparel and collectibles online. The family-entertainment business debuted e-commerce on The Jim Henson Company’s Official Online Store at its website (www.henson.com), which carries T-shirts, posters, iPhone skins, toys and DVDs. Creative web-based company MashOn (www.mashon.com) designed the website.
According to Allyson Smith, Henson’s vice president of new media, getting into the e-commerce store is for the fans. “It allows for a guaranteed connection between consumers and Henson product. They will know that they will always have a place to go to find their favorite Jim Henson Co. brands,” she wrote in an e-mail.
Fans can purchase $21.99 T-shirts for Henson properties such as “The Dark Crystal,” “Dinosaur Train,” “Labyrinth” and “Skatelab.”
Next month, consumers also will be able to use the website to design custom Henson product such as T-shirts and iPhone skins using licensed Henson art.
Expect a steady flow of new Henson product to debut on this website, said Christian Saulnier, director of business development for MashOn, Henson’s online partner. “The Jim Henson Co. has a vault of vibrant and compelling artwork. We are looking to extract and release new products showcasing these graphics on a monthly basis and to also address the demand of seasonal events,” Saulnier said.—Andrew Asch
