If you ever wondered what it might be like to poke your head inside the fantastical world of a Mark Ryden and Marion Peck painting or step through the looking glass into one of Shag’s swanky martini party illustrations, get thee to the Laguna Art Museum’s new “Art Shack” exhibit, sponsored by Hurley.
The opening-night reception for “Art Shack” will be held on Saturday, June 12, from 7–10 p.m. to kick off the exhibit, which features 31 California artists, including many familiar names to the fashion world: Paul Frank, Mark Ryden and Marion Peck, Shag, Don Ed Hardy, and Hurley resident artist Jason Maloney. The exhibit will run June 13–Oct. 3 at the Laguna Art Museum in Laguna Beach.
Each of the artists approached the shack theme from a different perspective: from skate photojournalist and artist Craig Stecyk III, who installed his mini shack on the roof of the museum so that guests would have to view it through security camera monitors, to Don Ed Hardy, who will have an activated tattoo machine.
