Cooper Design SpaceSuite 409(213) 489-0796info@room.ioEdgy, contemporary showroom Room will make its address in downtown Los Angeles again.
The veteran showroom, helmed by Marilyn Rodriguez, debuted at the Cooper Design Space February. Last year, she moved Room from The New Mart to Hollywood’s burgeoning Hollywood and Vine intersection. While building a loft business was compelling in the quickly revitalizing neighborhood, she found fashion buyers are loyal to downtown Los Angeles’ fashion district. “People like to stay in this area,” Rodriguez said.
A new location means a new fashion focus for Room. Edgy, designer styles will continue to be the heart of Room’s business. However, Rodriguez will emphasize more-affordable wholesale prices at her new 1,300-square-feet showroom. Wholesale price points range from $60 for a top to $460 for a jacket at Room.
Her new lines include designer label Tristan + Trista, which offers art and rock ’n’ roll influences. There’s jewelry line Gemma Redux, which was named to the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s prestigious Fashion Incubator Program on Feb. 1. Another client is the avant-garde-inspired m.o.l. knits. There’s the Italian designer collection Nolita, which offers dresses and jeans with a feminine touch. Its sibling label, Ra-Re, offers a full collection of premium-denim styles. There's also Cinch, a Los Angeles–based accessories line.
Rodriguez said that the style of her showroom will be a minimal look where the fashions will be the focus of attention. “It’s good to be in the mix of it,” she said of her return.—Andrew Asch
