Metropark Taps Gap Exec as CEO
Metropark is in growth mode with a new top executive and a plan to open more stores in 2011.
Former Gap brand President Cynthia T. Harriss was named chief executive of the City of Industry, Calif.–based chain on June 1.
Harris will replace Renee Bell, who has been named to the newly created position of president and chief merchandising officer, where she will be responsible for Metropark’s merchandising, inventory planning, marketing and e-commerce strategies. Bell has held the chief executive post since late 2007.
“We are investing in management and infrastructure for future expansion as we build our brand,” Metropark founder and Chairman Orv Madden said. “During 2011, we expect to open up to 10 new stores and relaunch our website and e-commerce site with enhanced features and capabilities.” Metropark currently operates 69 stores.
Prior to joining Metropark, Harriss’ career included serving as president of Disneyland Resort from 1999 to 2003. She directed operations at Disneyland, Great California Adventure, and Disney’s hotels and retail ventures and oversaw a $1.4 billion expansion of the park. She joined Gap in February 2004 and served as Gap brand president until February 2007, when she resigned her post.—Andrew Asch
